Port St Lucie is located in the heart of Florida's "Treasure Coast". This Florida city of Port St. Lucie is located about 120 miles from Miami (to the south) and Orlando (to the northwest). The Florida Turnpike runs through the city, which is also near Interstate I-95 and U.S. Route 1. The New York Times has called Port St. Lucie a "thriving Florida town," and is one that prides itself on being a friendly family vacation destination. After a population boom in the 60's, the city's population tripled between 1980 and 1990. Today, the city has transitioned from a residential bedroom community to one of Florida's fastest growing cities. It offers a wide variety of outdoor sports, attractions and special events and lies seven miles north of the town of Stuart. Port St. Lucie is an old Florida town that thrives on sport fishing. An endless row of piers juts out along the Intracoastal Waterway and the Fort Pierce Inlet for both ocean and river runs. Visitors can also dive, snorkel, swim and sunbathe in a relaxing area that hasn't been overdeveloped. Daily boat tours of the St. Lucie River, historical and wildlife tours are offered.
